how to change Google account on Android without hard reset: Delete accounts.db file
If the Android device already rooted, then you can delete Gmail Account without factory reset in the following way:
Install the file manager application that can access the root system (the root explorer), for example “File Expert”.
- Find and open the “data” folder”
- Find and open the “system” folder which is inside the data folder
- Find the “accounts.db” file > delete the file
- Restart your Android phone or tablet
If you use File Expert application, here is more detailed instruction:
- Install the “File Expert” app from the Android Market
- Open the Application
- Press the MENU button > click More > click Settings > File Explorer Settings > tick on “Root Explorer” > it will show superuser pop up notification > click “allow”
- Press the Back button > you will be taken to the folder list
- Usually, when you first enter the File Expert app, you’ll be on the SD Card folder. Take a look at the top left side of the application, if your current position is in SD card, it will be written /mnt/sdcard.
- Press the BACK button so you won’t be in any folder (written “/” on the top left side)
- Find and click the “data” folder
- Once inside the data folder, locate and click the “system” folder (it will be written “/data/system”, look picture below)
- Find the “accounts.db” file > click and hold for several second > click “File Operations” > Click Delete > Click Confirm
I have tried this method and it is safe to do. Some Android users who already tried this method never face a problem. But still, do this with your own risk.
